Sex Education SPOILER-FREE review!

Sex Education

I rarely ever find a British show I don’t fully enjoy; they do exist. Most times, I end up giving them a 10 because I have no other qualms with the respective series. Yet, in the case of Sex Education, I think I might know what a perfect series looks like. Of course, there are things I didn’t enjoy as much, like most of Jean’s storylines, but looking at the big picture, they were absolutely necessary for Otis’s development as an individual. I know the word, “quirky” is being used right now to mean something negative since way too many shows right now are trying to be, “quirky” when they’re trying to be unique, fun, and outlandish. Sex Education is unique, fun, and outlandish as all can be, and I am here for it. It is also insanely emotional, deeply real, and unapologetic.

The way this show handles an ensemble of differing characters, who barely even interact with each other sometimes is incredible. Each individual is met with attention and care. Yes, there are parody characters galore, but they only serve to bolster our main protagonists. The journeys they all go on are tethered to each person and tackles new and different aspects of a person’s sexuality or sexual life/journey.

I am not sure which character I relate with the most. Often when watching any form of media/content, I find myself relating with certain aspects of certain characters. There isn’t one character that I would say is absolutely me over the rest like I would say both Haley and Mitchell Dunphey are basically me in a nutshell with a tiddly bit of Phil. But in this show, I felt myself routing for Adam Groff, Eric Effiong, and Aimee Gibbs. This isn’t a diary, no worries. The only thing I will say is that these characters all have AMAZING arcs and tremendous growth that by the end of the series, where they all end up is simply POETIC and truly outstanding.

Now, I know a lot of people are going to hate the ending, but from what I have heard from other reviewers and true fans of the show, the series finale is a nigh perfect and totally satisfying one. I would regard Season 4 as one of my favorite TV seasons of all time just because of how dedicated everyone is to their role in telling the correct story. I cannot stress how good the writing is in this show.

In the end, Sex Education is exactly what you would expect out of a black comedy british sitcom times ten. In fact, I give both season 4 and the entire show a perfect 10.
