So, what did I think of Ahsoka? I have mixed feelings, but overall good. It’s just that this was NOT Ahsoka’s show in the slightest. I think this was purely a Rebels season 5 with the Ahsoka title because Disney doesn’t want to pay people who’ve worked on Rebels in the past any money, despite this being something they all worked on. It’s a sleazy scheme that Disney and Netflix do ALL the time. To avoid paying people the proper money they deserve–SOUND FAMILIAR?! (Always standing with WAG and SAG-AFTRA) This is all my own personal claim from what I have learned recently from these strikes and people coming out finally against these big studios like Disney is doing with Srteven DeKnight and Daredevil: Born Again (link to the article is in the description).
This is something that I absolutely abhor; it’s disgusting behavior, honestly, but what do we expect from the big, bad, rich, white old guy in power? For me, that’s allI see when I see Ahsoka. I absolutely LOVE Ahsoka and there were GREAT moments in the show. There are just a LOT of issues with the show, and this is the biggest one. This is blatantly NOT Ahsoka’s show and for all the wrong internal reasons, and I’m sorry to make you aware of that, but once you stomach this is not Ahsoka but Rebels 4.5 (i’d say it’s a half Rebels season), the rest becomes easier to chew. She does get really cool solo moments, but they are literally few and far in between and come way too late into the season.
Aside from that and the overall writing, the rest of the show is fantastic. The acting, the dark and more serious tone (people are describing it as a Game of Thrones vibe), the fight scenes (mostly) are incredible. The show just feels WAY too overstuffed, the pacing seems off at various moments, and I am actually quite upset with certain character choices that quite literally pissed me off, but I go over that in my spoiler review found on YouTube, @filmerdude24.
One thing to note is that it seems to me, and I did hear, that Dave Filoni and crew are wanting to make a season 2 for Ahsoka. I am not sure where I heard that rumor, because I cannot find it online anymore at the time of me writing this. However, I do remember reading it. So, have that in the back of your mind, because if this show were to stay as a limited series, dang, that sucked. But if there is a season 2 coming, then BRING IT ON.
This is nowhere near a perfect show or season. It’s FAR better than The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan combined. I would even say that it’s almost better than Andor (I didn’t like Andor–insanely boring first half, AMAZING second half). However, It’s not perfect by any means. For me, I found many of it frustrating, mainly because I just want to get on with it already. This felt like it should’ve been 13-episodes, or at least, this feels like half of the show and story, which is designed that way, sure, but the journey could’ve used a tiddly bit more thought put into it, if you ask me. Despite that, Ahsoka is one of the funnest, darkest, and more emotional rides I’ve seen from Star Wars in a VERY long time. If you like Game of Thrones, The Wticher, or even Andor, you’ll LOVE Ahsoka. If you love Ahsoka, you’ll love Ahsoka! If you like Rebels, then you will definitely like this!
What do I give Ashoka? I did enjoy the show despite all of the issues it has, honestly. So, I give Ahsoka an 8.5 out of 10.
